Against all odds and after over a ton of challenges, Walk 3 begins Wednesday September 28th. With the weather changing and the deadline to get into NYC for the final mile on November 12th, this week is the last window of opportunity for Walk 3.

The first leg of the 300 mile walk is from the origin of Hudson’s River at Henderson Lake to Schuylerville NY, an 80 mile stretch along Highway 28 & 4.  If I’m able to walk 10-12 miles a day, I should be there in a week’s time.

I’ve road tested Grayson’s Wagon and while weight and load balance are significant issues in the mountainous logging roads, power represents our main challenge. To that end, the success of this walk depends on battery power and we are calling for chargers who can help out.

If you’re in the vicinity of Walk 3 – the map on www.HudsonRiverWalk.org is still correct though the dates haven’t been updated yet – your help would consist of only meeting us out on the road after our day’s walk is done, picking up batteries, and charging them in a simple wall socket. The batteries are like the ones you use in landscaping and yard tools.

If you can help with this task, please contact Ginger Morgan… ginger@puppyup.org or by phone: 901-619-2286.

I’ll also have a portable power station as a backup that I’ll occasionally need to charge. Dropping off the next morning so that we can continue walking would be necessary as well. And, I am willing to reimburse for gas as it’ll reduce the need to stay at campsites or hotels which we’re trying to do as little as possible.

The fastest way to reach us on the road through DM via my FB, Twitter or Insta all of which are 2Dogs2000Miles.  You can also DM Grayson on Twitter Insta & TikTok @3LeggedPyrenees.

If Gray and I can make it successfully to Schuylerville NY within no more than 10 days, we should make it the remaining 220 miles as it’s all downhill with some ups in the middle.  I’m approaching Stage 1 as a Beta test since we just didn’t have enough time to do substantial road testing. After that, I’ll recalibrate the Walk Plan more accurately and determine the subsequent stages.

One of our volunteers in Memphis asked me via Facebook why I didn’t just come home when faced with so many obstacles prior to the walk even beginning. For me, when the work is that important, you exhaust all possibilities before you quit.  And I made a promise to Hudson before he died and like the ones I made to Malcolm and Murphy, l intend to keep this one too.

Thanks to Pet Gear who donated the stroller that didn’t work out and to Great Circle US for helping us acquire Grayson’s Power Wagon. I’m still making last minute modifications for Grayson’s safety and comfort but fundamentally, it’s very cool and a ton of fun to use. But we’re going to push it to its absolute limits for 6 and a half weeks and the dangers on the road we’ll face are real.

We’re hosting a Facebook & TikTok Live on the eve of our launch to speak at length about Walk 3, Hudson’s Hope and answer any questions you guys have. This Tuesday 27th afternoon – look for the times once Ginger schedules them.

That’s it for now. Thanks everyone for the support, motivation and to those who donated to the Facebook fundraiser. And please help out with our Call for Chargers to power up #TeamFuzzybutts.
