Just like there are many different breeds of dogs, The Puppy Up Foundation, needs many different volunteers to help the organization. No matter where you live or how much time you have to offer, there is a role for you.
Are you detailed-oriented, creative and artistic, great at internet research or making phone calls? Would you like to volunteer at fun, educational events? Share your interests and talents and help raise awareness and funding for canine cancer and comparative oncology.
Volunteer Task Descriptions
Walk Planning Volunteers Descriptions
Volunteer Coordinator: Brings volunteers onboard to help plan the walk and is responsible for securing & assigning positions for day-of-event volunteers. Will also secure morning coffee, juice and snacks for the day-of-walk volunteers.
Team Coordinator: Recruits teams to the walk and provides information to them as needed about the event and the foundation.
Public Relations: Establishes relationships with local media outlets, Facebook updates, Twitter updates and publishes the press release (under direction of the foundation). Will also coordinate with a local photographer for the event.
Award Coordinator: Locate a local award company to make awards for heroes, top fundraiser, top volunteer & top team. Secure gifts for each including the printing of their certificates. Will coordinate with the survivor coordinator on hero gifts.
Survivor Coordinator: Finds a canine & human cancer survivor to honor at the walk. Establishes local connections with survivor groups to get them involved. Coordinates with award coordinator on hero gifts.
Sponsorship/Vendor Coordinator: Recruits sponsors & vendors to attend the walk (don’t have to limited to pet-related companies; think outside the box). Ensure they receive amenities as promised.
Entertainment: Develops & coordinates day-of-event activities. For example, a local band, DJ, dog demo groups etc. Is also responsible for securing an emcee, event program and script.
Tribute Sign Coordinator: Responsible for securing all tribute sign images are suitable for printing, oversees the printing process (with foundation printer) and are placed on day-of-walk.
Day-of-Event Volunteer Descriptions
Day-of-Walk Registration: Register new participants.
Pre-Registration: Check-in registered participants and hand them their PuppyUp bag.
Sponsor/Vendor Check-in: Check-in sponsors & vendors and direct the to their tent/booth.
Bag Runner: Stationed behind registration & pre-registration, will hand PuppyUp bag to participant once asked to do so.
Merchandise Booth: Will sell PuppyUp merchandise to participants. Will need to load the Square App on cell phones.
Vendor/Sponsor Coordinator:
Volunteer Coordinator: Check-in volunteers, remind them of their assigned volunteer tasks and keep track of them throughout the day.
Paw Print Painting: Assist pet parents with the paw paint and getting it onto the pre-painted canvases. Wash dog paws with water and dry them.
Water Station : Volunteers will hand out water to participants.
Memorial Wall: The memorial wall will be available to pin a photo to the wall or fill out a pawprint/handprint/footprint and write the name of their loved one and pin it to the wall. Making sure supplies are available to participants.
General setup: Direct where to place trashcans, signage etc.
General cleanup: The park & trails used need to be clean of all trash, dog poop etc. All signs need to be picked up. All trash cans will need to be emptied and disposed of in the rented dumpster.
Route Marshalls: These volunteers will be told where on the walk route to stand. This is generally at intersections to direct walkers on the right path.
Non Walk Volunteer needs
Social Media Ambassadors: These volunteers will share our social media posts to their their social media pages.
Awareness Volunteers: These volunteers will deliver our Warning Sign card to their local pet businesses.
