Clutch Knisley (1)

“Turns out, we needed her as much as she needed us.”

There was a lump on Clutch’s stomach and head. Our vet thought we should take them off, just to be safe. We’re fond of our vet…and our dog, so we had the surgery. When it was over the lump on her stomach went to the lab…sure enough Mast Cell Tumor.

Clutch had a rough life prior to meeting us 6 years ago. We were in Georgia for the weekend and my wife wanted to stop at a store. The local kill shelter was sponsoring a pet adoption day next door. As my wife, Shannon, walked into the store of her choice, she shouted back to our daughter & me…” we’re NOT getting a dog”.

Previously named “Lucy”, she was listed as a 2-year-old boxer mix, with the notes of being housebroken and good with kids. Clutch would be her new name…now we just had to convince the wife. It was not an easy task. We had no idea what baggage might be hidden behind those sad, insecure eyes. We‘d never rescued before, only having purebred dogs. No one knew what we might be taking home that day. Well, despite the risk we convinced Shannon to say YES. During that 5-hour drive home, Clutch quickly showed us how much she appreciated the ride from Georgia to her forever home in Tennessee.

Turns out, we needed her as much as she needed us. Clutch is a companion for our entire family. She loves everyone.

Clutch gets lots of pets, but as a precaution, we are making sure she gets plenty of rub downs to check for new bumps.  So far, so good.  We look forward to several more years with our kill shelter rescue, two-time owner surrender, Am Staff, Boxer, Cocker Spaniel, best dog EVER!
