I adopted Tyler when she was about 8 months old after being found as a stray in Columbus, Ohio. I was just starting veterinary medical school at The Ohio State University when she came into my life so it is fitting that she helped me become the veterinarian I am today. I have a passion for finding solutions and helping my patients because I truly understand the bond we share with our dogs. TyTy and I had a very special bond and she deserved the best – so I hold myself to a high standard. She would often go to school with me and when I moved to North Carolina for work, Tyler was a fixture in the hospital every day too. Co-workers and clients got to know and love her throughout the years.

That Little Red Dog was a handful when she was young though! She was a very confident and energetic pup with some separation anxiety issues that forced me to become a patient person at a young age. She needed daily walks to get the energy out of her and those walks eventually became a staple of our relationship. We began hiking in the woods which I found peaceful and thought provoking and she would just try hard to mark every tree and chase every squirrel she saw. Our walks got slower as she aged and she stopped caring about every squirrel she could see but they were always our favorite thing to do together.

Ty was the one constant in my life. She was with me through moves, breakups, job changes and I can honestly say, the Little Red Dog made me a better person. Tyler knew how much she meant to me because I not only told her often, I showed her how special she was by making her life full of fun and laughter. But she gave me so much more. Those cute ears and soulful eyes who loved belly rubs and dancing in the kitchen but hated to be picked up taught me the true meaning of unconditional love and I will forever be grateful to her and will always remember our special bond with a smile.

Everyone who met Ty, or The Little Red Dog as she was affectionately nicknamed, loved her. She sadly passed in 2014 from a brain tumor but she will forever be remembered in the hearts of all who loved that sweet girl.
