2 Dead Dogs has a new landing page – www.2deaddogs.org. It’s a Patreon site for creators & all of the content there will be accessible for free – blog posts, the upcoming podcasts, etc. I don’t mind being a starving artist for the time being, as I’ve pretty much given everything I have and am into this cause and then some, but at some point there’s enough value in this story, told through this serial podcast, that I might have a membership structure in the future.
Although, I’ve done extensive due diligence into monetizing podcasts ― and if and when 2 Dead Dogs achieves the milestones I’ve forecasted, I may choose an ad revenue model and in which case ― the podcasts will be free. My plan is to franchise it so that it’s a perpetual funding source for Puppy Up well into the future, and I have a pretty good shot at it. We’ll see, as this is all very new and exciting, and I’ll include you in all aspects of this new path I have undertaken for the past year plus.
The podcast goes live Wednesday, October 9th with Episode One – Worlds End. The following Wednesday, the 16th, I’ll have interviews and discussions about Episode One with some of the actual cast of characters we’ve met on our travels. Episode Two – Dragonflies of the Delta – will drop Wednesday the 23rd, and then the following Wednesday more interviews to be announced.
The launch and drop dates are posted at www.2deaddogs.org and that’s the landing page going forward. Again, it’s free.
It’s a story I’ve tried to tell since after the first walk but after Murphy – there was no noble ending nor great arc to that – it just didn’t make sense to me and so I got lost in trying to tell it like it should be told. 2 Dead Dogs – as a serial podcast experience – is the way I’m going to tell it.
Some of you will be a part of it, and some of you in ways you might not even know, but I promise you this – it’s the sum total of all of our travels – the good, the bad, and yer big dog, too.
I’ve teed it up pretty good, anyway.
Also – I have way too many moving parts in my hemisphere right now and so I’m consolidating. I’m only available at the following email – jlucas@2deaddogs.org – I’ve missed some communiques I’m quite sure and sorry for that. On to …
I Heart Hudson Tour
Well, Hudson took Labor Day way too literally as his lazy arse hasn’t gotten up from the sofa bed it’s so firmly planted in. It’s tough working with a diva but that’s why I’m the papi. And his agent, and courier, and man servant. But hey – I’m a grown man traveling with a talking dog.
If you aren’t following the misadventures of the infamous Fuzzybutt @ihearthudsontour – start. Hudson will be the star & the narrator for most of it. In short – we’re shooting a docuseries, the distribution channel of which I am uncertain as yet.
But it’s what I tried to achieve with Summer of Murphy but he didn’t make it. And you’ll be a part of it from start – design, planning, prep, building of Hudson’s tear-drop trailer, and setting the tour dates, too. It’s an ambitious project but I have designed both 2 Dead Dogs & I Heart Hudson tour to tell this our story – all of us who have suffered unto the scourge of cancer – in different ways but with the same intent and purpose.
We’ll see.

Novel Treatment for Nasal Tumors
From Study Pages
Background and purpose
Nasal tumors can cause severe nasal bleeding or discharge and difficulty breathing. These tumors often aggressively spread throughout the tissues of the nasal cavity and into the surrounding organs, including the eye and brain. Radiation therapy is the treatment of choice for nasal tumors in dogs; however, radiation therapy isn’t often good for long-term control of the tumor. An another treatment option is transarterial embolization, or TAE, which involves the delivery of a mechanical “clot” to the main arteries supplying blood to the tissues of the nasal cavity with the goal of eliminating the blood supply of the tumor and decreasing tumor size.
The purposes of this study are to 1) describe TAE in dogs with naturally-occurring nasal cancer, 2) evaluate the effect that nasal TAE has on the tumor, and 3) evaluate the effect that nasal TAE has on the values measured by positron emission tomography (PET) scanning.
What happens in this study
If you agree for your dog to take part in this study, your dog will undergo:
· Transarterial embolization (TAE)
· A PET/CT scan. This will be repeated at 1 month post-TAE.
Pet owner responsibilities
If you choose for your dog to take part in this study, you will need to:
· Bring dog in for all scheduled visits
· Cover costs of the TAE and any medical costs from any complications that may occur
· Complete owner questionnaires
Participation requirements
We are looking for dogs diagnosed with nasal cancer.
To find out if your dog can take part in this study, your dog will need a CT scan. If the CT scan demonstrates that invasion of adjacent structures is present, your dog may not be able to be enrolled and you will need to cover the costs of that CT scan.
Benefits and risks of participating
We hope that the data acquired in this study will allow us to advance the treatment of cancer in both dogs and people.
Compensation
The study will cover both of the PET/CT scans and associated anesthesia.

Pup of the Month — Blue Anthony

Blue Anthony
(By Michelle Anthony) This is my 14 year old Walker Coonhound “Blue” at a PuppyUp! Walk in Denver November 6, 2011. We were walking to support cancer research for other dogs, not knowing the following year she would be diagnosed with a nasal tumor that would eventually end her life. She was a happy, loyal girl who came to me after her previous owners couldn’t keep her at the age of 11. Her story started years earlier when a rescue friend of mine transported her from a horrible shelter to my neighbors. Blue recognized her many years later as her savior!
(Blue was a contestant in the 2017 Puppy Up Calendar Contest.)
How You Can Help
Just like there are many different breeds of dogs, The Puppy Up Foundation needs many different volunteers to help the organization. No matter where you live or how much time you have to offer, there is a role for you.
Are you detailed-oriented, creative and artistic, great at internet research or making phone calls? Would you like to volunteer at fun, educational events? Share your interests and talents and help raise awareness and funding for canine cancer and comparative oncology.
Donate to the Cause
It’s estimated that between 4 and 6 million dogs die from cancer each year and recently it was announced that 36 children a day are diagnosed with cancer. Our pets and our children are being attacked by this deadly disease. Your donation to The Puppy Up Foundation will help further our mission of discovering the causes of cancers and their common link in both pets and people.
Your gift is very much appreciated and fully deductible as a charitable contribution. The Puppy Up Foundation is a 501 C(3) organization and our tax ID number is 47-2319212. All transactions conducted on our Web site are encrypted using a secure server to protect your privacy. All donations are final. All transactions are happening in the United States.
