Dexter

Dexter

We are saddened to report that Dexter, our San Antonio Canine Cancer Hero and friend to many all over the world, passed away Saturday evening, August 8, 2015.

Dexter was to be the Canine Cancer Hero for the PuppyUp & Putt It In Golf Tournament, coming up this August 27 in San Antonio.

Here is an excerpt of what Dexter’s guardian wrote on Dexter’s Facebook page:

Hello everyone. Thank you for all of the comments and messages but most of all thank you for the love, kindness and support you gave my boy since creating his page 3 years ago. #TeamDexter was born. He touched the lives of thousands of people across the globe with his big smile and his big heart.

I am sure many people are shocked as I am because it happened so suddenly. I really felt if there was a dog that can beat cancer it would be Dexter. Last night about 7:20pm I took Dexter out of his crate. He slowly walked into the kitchen and his back legs gave out. He continued to try to walk but couldn’t get his balance and looked as if he was slipping on the floor.

I sat on the floor with him and told him I love him and it’s okay for him to cross over. The light in his eyes was gone as he looked up at me and took his last breath, holding on to him and telling him how much I love him.

Dexter took a part of my heart with him. He will never be forgotten and I will continue to carry his inspiration and message in honor of him. The inspiration of forgiveness, love and hope.

Dexter taught me so much over the past 5 1/2 years I have had him in my life. It was an honor to have such a truly wonderful dog join my family.  After all he had been through.  His gentle nature, zest for life, always smiling, and his crossed eyes when he was very happy/excited is how I will remember him.

He was the greatest gift and will never be forgotten.

Thank you all again for loving him and for your support.
