How did the Walks begin?
Our Puppy Up! Walks all began with a promise to raise awareness about the increasing prevalence of canine cancer. With his two Great Pyrenees dogs, Hudson and Murphy, Luke Robinson walked over 2300 miles from Austin, Texas to Boston, Massachusetts, through 16 states and the District of Columbia, to fulfill his promise to his dog Malcolm who died from metastatic bone cancer in 2006. That promise included telling as many people as possible about their story, and educating the public about the many similarities between canine and human cancers.
Luke and his Boys’ historic walk ended on June 19, 2010 when they walked into Boston surrounded by hundreds of supporters and friends. But the work had just begun. Thus, 2 Million Dogs was formed with the belief that if 2 dogs could walk 2000 miles to bring awareness about cancer, surely 2 million dogs can walk 2 miles with the same objective.
Our mission benefits the study of canine cancer and comparative oncology, and the funds raised from these events will be used to fund canine cancer and comparative oncology research, particularly focusing on the causal relationship between infections, immune response, and cancer. We are in the early stages of our process as we are currently looking for research partners and raising monies to fund the study.
Come and be a part of history this November 6th as thousands in cities all across America join in on the promise.
