Odie is the Canine Grand Marshall for the Puppy Up! Walk in San Antonio. Odie has been diagnosed with Spindle Cell Carcinoma.
Submitted by his mom, Jo Ann Loux
Odie is a pit bull who was found in November 2008 wandering the streets of San Antonio. He was malnourished, heart-worm positive and had numerous puncture wounds on his body. Thanks to the kindness of the volunteers at the Converse Animal Shelter , he was rescued and nursed back to health. After spending time with a wonderful foster family and learning social skills at Green Dog Kennels.
At the kennel, Odie found a fur-ever friend, Chardonnay. It didn’t take long thereafter for Odie to become a permanent member of Chardonnay’s home in January 2010.
Unfortunately, six months after finding his forever home Odie was diagnosed with Spindle Cell Carcinoma and underwent surgery. He did well following surgery but in March 2011 it was confirmed that his cancer had spread and his time with me would be measured in months, not years. I had recently lost my beloved 11-year old Rottweiler to Osteosarcoma so I knew what Odie would be facing in the months ahead and decided to do my best to make sure he enjoys every day with me. And, in return, not a day goes by that Odie does not bring joy to my life. He is always making me laugh, whether by the quirky way he runs when he’s excited to see me or the way in which he is constantly picking up everything on the floor to take it to “his room” for safe-keeping. So far, Odie’s cancer has not slowed him down or changed his fun-loving spirit.
I don’t know whether it is Odie’s zest for life or his lion-hearted personality, but he has touched many lives and makes a lasting impression on everyone he meets. Like many others who have adopted a rescue animal, my life will be forever changed for giving Odie the forever home that he truly deserves.

There were 10,000 who walked through the door last year. I’m totally thrilled and honored to be there for 2 Million Dogs.
