Cooper, Yuba City’s 2015 PuppyUp Canine Cancer Hero, a beautiful Golden Retriever, was born November 13, 2002.  He’s had quite a few encounters with cancer, but keeps kicking its butt. He’s every bit a Canine Cancer Hero!

Cooper

In April of 2012, he had a fatty mass removed from his left shoulder in the arm pit area.  This large mass was making movement difficult.   In December of 2012 he was diagnosed with a Mast cell tumor in his abdomen.  The tumor was removed December 27, 2012.  Due to the stage of the tumor, it was necessary to take large margins around the tumor to have a more positive result.

Cooper is a strong boy and recovered well from this surgery.  He was returning for a check up on this surgery in late January of 2013 when a small tumor was identified on his penis.  This was a very challenging tumor because the veterinary oncologist had a difficult time determining the specific type of tumor.  When the cytology was conducted, a clear determination could not be made on the type of tumor.  The cells were growing quickly and was making the diagnosis very difficult.  The doctors stated that it was a plasma cell tumor and it needed to be removed.  This surgery was also done successfully.

Again in the summer of 2014, he had a small tumor removed from his chin. At first it was diagnosed as potential Melanoma, but it was biopsied and was determined to be benign.

Through it all, Cooper still enjoys life, and one of his favorite activities is to go duck hunting with his human dad, Ben.

Cooper will be celebrating his 13th Birthday on November 13, 2015.
