Luke and Indy

– Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group (VMSG) welcomes them to San Juan Capistrano on Tuesday, December 9th at 2:00pm

Orange County, CA — On Tuesday, December 9th at 2:00 p.m. Luke Robinson and his traveling companion, Indiana, a 3-year-old Great Pyrenees, will be arriving at Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group (VMSG) located at 31896 Plaza Drive, Suite C1 in San Juan Capistrano as they approach the tail-end of their 2,000 mile walk to raise awareness for canine cancer. All are invited to attend at 2:00 p.m. to meet Luke and Indiana, take a tour of VMSG’s state-of-the art pet emergency and animal specialty hospital, and get to know VMSG’s board-certified specialists.

Luke’s Story

Everyone reacts differently when losing a cherished animal to cancer.  When Luke Robinson lost his beloved dog, Malcolm in 2008, he went for a walk, a long walk, covering over 2,000 miles, 16 states, and 826 days from Austin, TX to Boston, MA to raise awareness and funds for canine cancer research. Along the way he established the Puppy Up Foundation (formerly Million Dogs) to discover common links between canine and human cancers and the causes of these cancers through comparative oncology research.

Six years later, Robinson once again put on his walking shoes, this time spending six months covering 2,000 miles from the border of Canada to the border of Mexico. Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group (VMSG) is pleased to welcome Luke and Indiana to San Juan Capistrano for a Meet and Greet with the public and local press. A VMSG veterinarian will also be conducting a thorough health check and wellness exam to ensure Indiana is in tip-top shape for the rest of the journey.

“I want to thank VMSG and all of our sponsors, supporters, friends, and family we’ve found and made mile by mile along our travels who have enabled us to keep this great story going,” commented Robinson. “When I reach the Mexican border I will have walked 1/6 the circumference of the earth for this important cause.”

Statistics indicate that 4 to 6 million dogs pass away each year due to canine cancer. This is why Robinson is passionate about educating and raising awareness about the disease. Since its inception, Puppy Up Foundation has funded a quarter of a million dollars in studies that search for the link between cancer in pets and people, and another $100,000 in education and awareness initiatives.
