FitBark introduces new device to help keep pets, their owners active

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —

As the weather gets colder, it can get harder to stay active for both us and our pets. A Kansas City company hopes its new product can help, while also giving better insight into your dog’s health.

When siblings Davide and Sara Rossi launched their company, FitBark, they had no idea how quickly it would grow.

“Fast forward four years now, we do have users in 140 countries,” said Davide Rossi.

Their fitness trackers for dogs have caught on, and inspired owners to get active, too.

“They were thinking they were buying our product for their pet, but in fact they have gotten a lot of health benefits themselves,” Davide Rossi said.

FitBark just launched a new product, which the Rossis’ Yorkie, named Little B, demonstrated.

“The FitBark GPS is an all in one health and location monitor,” David Rossi said.

It clips right onto a dog’s collar and can send stats straight to a phone.

“(It shows) how well they slept last night, how many miles they ran, how many calories they burned,” he said.

The FitBark GPS can be linked to your own fitness tracker. FitBark has a partnership with Fitbit, but other trackers can link as well. The new device also tracks behavioral changes that could indicate anxiety, like if your dog is scratching more than usual.

It also helps solve one of the biggest fears of pet owners if the dog runs off.

“You can open up your phone, your mobile app, and track your dog in real time nationwide,” Rossi said.

The Rossis are originally from Italy but said that Kansas City has been a perfect fit for FitBark because it’s right in the animal health corridor.

“This is one of the greatest pet loving communities. And we definitely love that we now feel home here,” Davide Rossi said.
