There wasn’t much I knew about cancer, at least not in our canine companions. I sure as hell didn’t know anything about comparative oncology. Though I have been a personal friend of Luke’s since school, it wasn’t until I found out what he was doing to bring awareness that I stopped and took notice. I am not ashamed to say that I was one of the many who didn’t pay much attention to the common links between canines and humans. I am however proud to say that I know now.
I have not lost a fur-baby to cancer and I pray I never do. In my life, those I have known with cancer have been the elderly, and I suppose in an odd way it was accepted because… well, they were old.
I started working in a hospital and my patients were of all ages but the ones who affected me the hardest were the children who had no idea of the devastation that was to come.
My mother was diagnosed with cancer and along with her Lupus, it was not easy to assist in her care, deal with her own emotional downfall, and my 
emotions as well. She has since overcome her cancer and Lupus as well. The chemotherapy that she underwent was also successful in ridding her body of Lupus. Who would’ve known?
I also have a dear friend who is younger than I am by just a year or so and she has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Are you kidding me? When did this happen? We are too young to be affected.
I made my way to my vet this past week and she told me of a puppy that is just 13 months old that now has osteosarcoma. OK, this has got to stop! It is not just the elderly humans who are being hit with cancer… it is everyone. As the saying goes, Cancer.Touches.Everyone.

I have decided to do whatever I can to bring awareness and educate thosewhot find themselves in the very same place as I did. I am hosting the Puppy Up!
