Ginger and her dog Buddy

Ginger and her dog Buddy

By Ginger Morgan, Executive Director

As I flip through my Cancer Can’t Keep A Good Dog Down calendar, I see all the special days: Love Your Pet Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Earth Day  — all days to celebrate. And then I see World Cancer Day. My initial gut reaction is I DON’T WANT TO CELEBRATE CANCER! However, I do want to stab it, defeat it, get rid of it, step on it, remove it, squish it, curse it, choke the life out it, shoot it, kill it, fight it… well, by now you get the picture.

Today is World Cancer Day. I intend to celebrate the lives of those fighting the battle against cancer, whether they are human or animal. I will honor those I continue to deeply mourn who have been lost to cancer. And I will renew my pledge to fight cancer with all the strength that I know is in me.

I will also Pucker up! In honor of World Cancer Day, as the Puppy Up Foundation will be part of Kiss Cancer Goodbye.

#KissCancerGoodbye: If you’ve been touched by cancer, post a photo of you kissing a friend, family member, patient, oncologist, or pet on February 4.

Be sure to tag @puppyupfoundation and make your photo public! Let’s fight this disease as one!

Make a promise to do something to fight cancer. You can donate to the Puppy Up Foundation, you can hand out our 10 Early Warning Signs of Canine Cancer (just send an email to me at ginger@puppyup.org and I’ll send some cards to you), you can listen to someone who is fighting their battle against cancer, and you can organize a Puppy Up Walk in your area.

If you’ll notice, all those started with You Can… and you can make a difference in the fight again cancer… what will you do?
