Check out all the great things happening with the Central Texas Puppy Up! Walk …

(by Tisha Beauchamp Cotham ) When I heard the phrase ‘Puppy Up!’ my first thought was how cute it was. Time went on and I was welcomed into the 2 Million Dogs family and then the lessons of ‘Puppy Up!’ were clear. I was learning that bringing awareness to canine and human cancers were so important and there was nothing cute about the diagnosis that many had been given.

I decided back in May to host a Puppy Up! Walk. I couldn’t do this unless I truly believed in what 2 Million Dogs stood for. I spent time visiting with the members, read through some material, asked questions and took a leap towards bringing awareness.  This non-profit organization along with their mission spoke to me and my heart.

It is now less than two months until the very first 2 Million Dogs Puppy Up! Walk in Central Texas. Where in the world did the time go? Well, the time has been spent doing many things. Being a Puppy Up Program Supervisor – PUPS – I have brought people in to volunteer and assist in gathering sponsors and vendors. We have collectively come up with some fun activities.  Though this is just a little bit of what we have planned, here is a sneak peek.

The City of Belton Parks & Recreation have sponsored three parks. They are also sponsoring a ‘Dachshund Dash’ and a ‘Happy Puppy Fun Run.’ The Dachshund Dash will take place starting at 2:30 PM and prizes will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place winners of $100.00/$50.00. The Happy Puppy Fun Run will begin at 4:00 PM and this is just for fun so you don’t want to miss it.  For more information on these two festivities please contact: 254-933-5860  or 254-933-5861 or visit their website.

Belton Small Animal Clinic graciously agreed to be a sponsor and they are going to be offering microchips at a discounted price of $25.00 which includes the chip and registration filing fee. All the proceeds from this will be donated to 2 Million Dogs. They have listed our Walk and also some of the story that started it all on their website.

Dr. Edwards with the Bell County Veterinary Hospital (1005 East 6th Avenue Belton, TX 76513) has offered to vaccinate any canine that needs his or her shots prior to the Walk with a 10% discount!  Please stop by anytime between now and Saturday, November 5th.  Make sure you tell them that you would like to receive the 2 Million Dogs Puppy Up! discount. Their number is 254-939-5762.

Amy Bickel, who is a photographer, will be with us to capture the event as it unfolds from beginning to end.

Leslie & Gabby with ‘LawDog Bullies’ and ‘Star of Texas Kennel’ have jumped on board and are hosting a ‘2 Million Dogs showdown’ This is where they will help promote the Belton Walk, raise money and allow altered dogs to show in their event. The ‘showdown’ will take place on Saturday, November 5th at Murphy Park Pavilion in Taylor Texas.  For additional information please visit: http://www.stkc.net/index.html

We have advertisements on two separate radio stations, KLove and AIR1.

We will also have a booth at the Austin Pet Expo on Saturday, October 8th and welcome all those near and far to join us in bringing awareness and reminding people that Texas knows how to Puppy Up!

We will continue to promote our Walk up until the minute it begins. And we will continue to bring awareness well after this walk concludes. For more information or if you would like to donate, volunteer, sponsor or even be a vendor then please visit our website.
