Every day, from now until our calendar contest ends on October 1st, we’ll feature several of our calendar dog contestants. Today we’d like to introduce you to Dixie and Buddy.
(by Cheryl Noroian)
Meet Dixie and Buddy, true soul mates.
These dogs were the very best of friends and had a truly remarkable connection. Although they belonged to two different families, they were together nearly every weekend. During those times, they loved to run together in the woods, swim in the lake, or share their mutual obsession with tennis balls.
When they were together, they were inseparable.
Then suddenly, Dixie was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma and nearly bled to death internally. After an emergency splenectomy she was given a short time to live. During that time, she lived life to the fullest and spent as much time as possible with her best friend. Two months later, Buddy was also diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma and died.
Two best friends, virtually inseparable in life, were both diagnosed with a particularly lethal form of cancer within a few months of each other.
Their deaths broke the hearts of two families. To this day, we remember the special bond that was shared by these two remarkable dogs….a bond that was broken by cancer.
