New Milford Inaugural 2 Million Dogs puppy up! Walk, November 7, 2010
by Dot Drobney
Finley, my Golden Retriever, can read me like a book. He knew, from the moment we got up this morning, that there was something good going on.
He got a good brushing, I added his Puppy Up! bandanna, filled a bag with goodies and my camera, then off we went with our friend Laurel and her little Portuguese Water Dog, Iggy. It was almost a two-hour drive to New Milford from our little town in the ‘Quiet Corner’ of CT, but well worth the drive. The
excitement was palpable as dogs and owners began arriving at the park in New Milford for the inaugural 2 Million Dogs walk! After sign-in and the gathering of the many treat/food samples, and our new Puppy Up! bandanna, we were ready to begin.
A smaller group than Boston, but with all the same enthusiasm…people and dogs took to the streets of New Milford. Kindly police officers held up traffic at the busy intersections, and beautiful (if windy) weather accompanied us on
the walk! Block after block we walked, with people calling to us out their car windows, and wondering where all the dogs came from! Such positive energy, and such a great crowd!! And so many new friends to make, canine and human…and one special pair of old friends, and their dogs, from Puppy Up! in Boston. Can’t wait for
next year!!
Dot said there were 100 dogs and their owners, so it was quite a sight
