During my first cross country walk from Austin to Boston for #CanineCancer awareness, I was introduced to another mad crazy man inspired to do the same. Although Jonathon Stalls was headed in a different direction and backpacking for a different cause, I shared lessons learned about long distance walking with dogs and advised Jon on safe routes that I’d traveled. And thank god he and his traveling companion Kanoa made their 3k mile trek safely.
Jon has since hiked some 10,000 miles around the world including Camino de Santiago which is a pilgrimage for Pyrenees parents that’s on my walk list. I often joke that Jonathon is what most people expect to get when they pay to see me but interestingly enough like me, Jonathan started out not knowing a thing about walking cross country.
Jon and I share some wild stories from the road, discuss life lessons derived from giving oneself completely unto a cause, and why when things get tough, he turns into Cate Blanchett and I into Doc Holliday.
Tales from his adventures are coming out this fall to bookstores: Walk: Slow Down, Wake Up and Connect. And it should be the definitive guide and source of inspiration for fuzzybutt parents to get out and walk with your mates!
A righteously and rightfully so self-described ‘Walking Artist’, Jon shares his poetry and artwork on his website – Intrinsic Paths. It’s trail magic that our paths met back in 2010 and that we continue to connect over the years.
Apologies this episode runs long and we didn’t even get through all of my talking points, but we hope to have Jon back on Fuzzybutts And Friends when his book comes out. And when he gets into NFTs…
