“My dog smelled like tortillas.”

Pet parents leave a lot of comments on our Facebook page, some of which are the unusual stories behind their dogs’ cancer diagnoses.

He won’t eat. She has a lump by her tail. He takes constant naps now.

There are several early signals of canine cancer: Lumps. Lesions. Sudden loss of appetite. The onset of cancer in dogs is sometimes fast as a lightning strike, which means every pet parent should check their animals each month for signs of cancer, just like they check themselves.

If your dog’s normal musk suddenly changes, that’s a possible sign that something is wrong, and you have a small window of time to see the vet. One doggy mom wrote she knew something was up when her puppy suddenly started to smell like corn tortillas. It sounds comical, but Loud Odor is No. 7 on our list of 10 Ls for a reason.

At the beginning of each month, remember to Feel Your Dog for the 10Ls and report anything unusual to your vet. We want you to have many happy years with your best friend!
