Mya Cone

Mya Cone

(Lisa Cone) We actually adopted Mya through a small shelter when she and her sister had been dumped.  We figure they were dumped at about 5 or 6 weeks old in an abandoned car.  When someone was contacted and they went for them, they also found a deer carcass had been put in for them to eat.  Of course, the puppies had worms, etc. so had to go through the whole process of de-worming before they could leave the shelter.

We got Mya at about 3 months of age.  She was a very needy girl and also had submissive urination issues.  We had to gate her in another room when company came until she had time to compose herself, and she was then OK.  She just loved people and always wanted attention.  We took her everywhere and she loved going on fundraising walks with us.  She also loved riding in the car.  This picture of her was one of my favorites.  She could destroy just about anything.  I can’t even tell you how many tire biters we went through.  But it saved our furniture.

She was 8 years old when we found the tumor and learned that it was inoperable.  She had such an outgoing personality and a zest for life, so we decided to do chemo.  We didn’t know how much time it might buy her but had been told maybe up to a year or more.  We started treatments, first at the Oncology vet, and then they had us try the ones at home.  She was responding OK to treatments and the tumor was not growing.  But we lost her when her spleen ruptured, and, given her cancer, the vet felt it would be too much for her to have surgery to remove the spleen along with the cancer.

She was diagnosed in October and we lost her the following Valentine’s day.
